The Background

The M4 smart motorway is an £848m project adding an additional traffic lane and demolishing 11 bridges along the route. To successfully complete the project, our client Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV) needed to carry out many activities some of which consist of: piling, road resurfacing, demolishing 11 bridges and creating compounds along the route.

The nature of this work meant it was often carried out overnight and would require the full closure of the motorway in both directions at different stages during the projects.

The Solution

BBV required a solution to keep residents informed of compounds created in their area, their use and how they would be affected. They also wanted to inform residents and key businesses along the route about full closures to limit the impact on those near the project. As a busy team, the solution needed to be simple and straightforward.
